JANUARY EVENTS

Trips This Month! call in for trips on the first Wednesdays of the month, starting at 11AM!  

Wednesday, January 15th: HMart Shopping Center & Food Court. This spacious Asian supermarket boasts fresh produce & seafood, a bakery, pre-cooked specialties and an expanded food court. Van leaves at 10:45AM. $5. Shopping carts welcome!    Friday, January 24th: “Rabbit Days & Dumplings” at Flushing Town Hall. Celebrate the Lunar New Year with a concert of folk songs from China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and Tibet by artist Elena Moon Park. Keep in the theme with a dumpling lunch at Om Wok! Van leaves at 10:30AM. $10 (van + ½ admission) plus pay your own lunch (expect to pay between $10-20 – cash preferred).  
Friday, January 31st: Native American Music & Dance at Flushing Town Hall. Robert Mirabal, winner of the Native American Music Award’s Artist of the Year, will perform with his Rare Tribal Mob band. Lunch follows at Pollo Inka. Van leaves at 10:30AM. $10 (van + ½ admission) plus pay your own lunch (expect to pay between $10-20 cash preferred).  
Friday, February 7th: Natu Camara at Flushing Town Hall. Celebrate Black History Month with West African singer-songwriter Natu Camara. Lunch follows at the Queensboro. Van leaves at 10:30AM. $10 (van + ½ admission) plus pay your own lunch (expect to pay between $10-25 cash preferred).    
Please note: trip prices vary: $5 for HANAC van trips, $10 for trips with rental vans, plus ½ price admission to museums and events. Please bring cash for restaurant visits.

What Can The NORC Do For Me?

Information & Case Assistance. From questions about local meal programs to home care, enrolling in benefits or renewing them, we are here for you!

Home Visits. Our nurses and social workers can visit you at home at no charge.

Safe Discharge.  Call or have your family member call us if you’re in the hospital. We will make sure services are in place when you’re discharged.

1/2 Price Car Service. Subsidized trips to medical appointments anywhere in the five boroughs.

Housekeeping. Subsidized housekeeping support to homebound individuals.

A Healthy Meal Boost. Selfhelp NORC offers 3-packs of frozen meals for NORC members who can use some assistance. Meals from Florence E. Smith Senior Services. 

Exercise Classes, Arts Programs, Special Presentations, and More! We offer programming in-person and on-line. Take a look at our calendar of events! 

THE SELFHELP VIRTUAL SENIOR CENTER

The VSC (Virtual Senior Center) offers interactive live classes and engaging entertainment led by subject matter experts, and provides a 2-way, video chat so that you can talk directly with other members and program instructors.
